FAQ

What should we expect when working with you?

This is your first time getting married, or first time graduating, or first time having your family photos taken. This is my 200+ time. I want to offer all that experience to you to help make your day the best it can possibly be! I'm your photographer and I'm going to prioritize capturing your day as authentically as possible--but I'm also going to be with you longer, more frequently, and in more spaces than any other vendor and I do not take that lightly. I'll help guide you from our first conversation until the end of your wedding day, and in that help you to overcome hurdles, make decisions, and navigate the infinite options until your day is shaped to look and feel just like YOU!

How much does it cost?

Such a good and honest question. When I was a bride looking for my photographer I found myself in the same boat--wanting to know exactly how much I was going to pay before I even considered an artist.

I'm so sorry that I can't give you a straight answer. It isn't because it's a secret, it's because it depends on... everything. Hopping on a call won't lock you into anything, costs you nothing, and helps me to evaluate what your needs are. So until we talk, we won't know for sure but here are some things to consider:

  1. On average photography will represent 15% or more of your wedding budget
  2. I describe it like this to my brides... you need to get groceries and you have x amount of money in your hand. You will walk out of the store with something, but what you want to spend leads your decision of where to shop, what to get, and what to pass up. A wedding photography budget is similar.
  3. When considering your hour coverage consider it like 3 pie slices: getting ready, ceremony, reception. You decide which components mean the most to you!
  4. When considering what you are willing to pay, consider that photos from your day will last longer and go further than any other component.

A very common question when booking wedding photography is “why is it so expensive?” If you aren’t familiar with the expenses photographers incur this certainly can be confusing. Common Expenses include:

Gear purchasing and rentals

Monthly fees for editing technology

Insurance for gear and your photos

Supplies for flat-lays and other creative needs

Gas to and from engagement and wedding locations

The work isn’t finished when the session ends.... On average for every one hour a photographer is behind the camera, they will spend 4 hours editing. Additionally, your photographer will spend hours in preparation for your session or big event researching, brainstorming creative direction, making a plan, and preparing gear

Elopement vs Intimate Wedding vs traditional wedding -- what's the difference?

I consider these as stair steps down, in descending order of complexity:

  1. Traditional weddings are typically held in a large venue, with a large (50+) guest count, utilizing a surplus of vendors (catering, hair + makeup, florist, DJ, live painting, etc)
  2. Intimate weddings are the middle ground, when a couple wants some traditional components on a much smaller scale. Utilizing much smaller and nontraditional venues, half as many vendors, and up to 30 guests.
  3. Elopements are the least traditional of the three and are best suited for couples who embrace unique and adventurous moments. From wild mountains to city courthouse steps to the backyard of a childhood home, elopements can happen anywhere and include as few as only the couple, or as many as 15 guests. Elopements require the least planning and are often utilized for a quick timeline or to break free of the pressures of the wedding industry as a whole.

Do you offer officiant services?

Yes! My husband is available to be hired as an officiant with any wedding I am photographing. It can be so difficult to find someone to honor your day, especially if it is a small wedding or elopement with only the two of you. Justus is kind, funny, thoughtful, and can help curate a ceremony that accurately reflects your love!

What should we wear for our session?

My greatest tips for you are this:

  • Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident. The better you feel, the more natural the photos will look
  • the more you can move, the better. So I suggest wearing clothes you can dance, sit in grass, or even run after each other/your kids in.
  • the colors you choose to wear are entirely up to you, but try to coordinate NOT match. Google and Pinterest have wonderful sug of color schemes that go well together
  • If one of you wears a pattern, have the other wear a complimenting solid

How will I receive my photos and can I print them myself?

Every customer receives a digital gallery of the their wedding or session. This gallery is shared via link, can be accessed from any device, and images can be downloaded in high resolution as many times and to as many devices as you'd like. You are responsible for your own printing, though if you desire professional grade printing services I do offer that as well.

I relinquish printing rights to you, but maintain full ownership of the images for use on my website, socials, and general branding/marketing.

How long does it take to get our photos?

For any type of session or wedding you can expect a robust and downloadable sample gallery (called a "sneak peek") back within 48 hours. Full galleries for Elopements and Microweddings are typically available ~4 weeks after, while a more traditional wedding you can expected closer to 5-7 weeks after.

For small sessions (Engagement, Senior, Family) you can expect your gallery back in around 2 weeks.

How many photos will we receive?

Every wedding and session is different, but you can expect to receive *approximately* 50 images per hour of shooting. If an image is good, I will share it with you. I do not put a cap on the number of images in a gallery.

I include a handful of black and white images in every gallery, and choose these based on style of photo. You can expect the ratio of B&W to regular photos to be approximately 1:10

Do you travel?

Don't we all want to?? I take on destination weddings/elopements on a case-by-case basis. As much as I LOVE traveling, I also highly value the photographers of specific areas and what their work does for the local economy. If I get a sense that a couple would be best suited to work with a photographer local to where they are traveling to I will recommend that and help them navigate that search. I do, however, consider myself an expert in travel in general so I always take destination weddings into great consideration :)
